New Years Resolutions

I’m not one for resolutions – they seem like a recipe for disaster in my books. Failure isn’t terribly rewarding, and while I’m all for mistakes, setting unrealistic goals just isn’t for me. Instead, I decided to jump on the bandwagon with a bunch of other ladies and get sewing.

I joined a Facebook group called Sew Your Pattern Stash. Each month has a theme, and the goal is to sew through your existing pattern stash (which we ALL have) by following along with the theme each month.

January was all about self-sewing. And I’m proud to say that I managed to ‘sew-along’ and get some self-sewing done. I did do the Otium, but I couldn’t really consider that from my stash, as I received the pattern for the blog tour. However, I did sew up a pattern that I had acquired during a Black Friday sale that I was super excited about.

I love the Compass Sweatshirt from My Little Plumcake. Admittedly, I’m not a fan of the huge kangaroo pouch on the front, so I simply left it off (there are pattern pieces and instructions for little pockets as well if that’s your fancy). And since discovering ribbing while making the Omni for M’s daddy, I felt the need to use it for the cuffs and waistband instead of fabric from the main body.

I picked up some cheapy-cheap sweatshirt fabric from my local shop. $3 a meter – seriously, you cannot go wrong with that price! And I have some left over to create something for M at some point too.

The pattern was a quick and pretty simple sew. It was fantastic in that I learnt two new methods – the cowl hood was a great addition (the way the neckline sits reminds me of a favourite Bench jacket) but the BEST BEST BEST part of this pattern is the cuffs! I officially know how to create cuffs with the hole for thumbs. I don’t know about everyone else, but that alone makes this pattern entirely worth it. Seriously – thumb holes!

I’ve been living in this one since I made it. M’s daddy has regained all his hoodies, and I’m perfectly cozy in this one. Even though I sized down a little for what was recommended for my measurements, I still find this one nice and roomy, but not overly baggy and cumbersome.

If you have a ridiculous pattern stash like me (let’s not discuss my fabric at this time – it’s embarrassing) then check out the link up above and come along with us and get SEWING! I know I am. In my super comfy hoodie. That I’m totally rocking.

    • Lol – I hear you Stephanie. I managed to ‘tune it out’ when I bought it because I was so enthralled with the neckline on it. And when I discovered the cuffs – that was it. In love 😉
